Healing during a turbulent time
We have all lived through many turbulent times over the centuries, the difference now is how much more information is available about these events. I choose to be selective about my intake of information. I love books, books have been healing me and guiding me for the last few years.
Many of us care, and care deeply about the things happening in places around the world. Cultivating deep self-care is essential to cope with our mental health. Engaging and supporting where we can, and as much as we can. And even when we choose to disconnect, we do it out of love and choosing to look after ourselves so we can continue to do the deep work that carries forward in the midst of the difficult events continuing to happen around the world.
I took a trip recently to France, it was a holiday for my children from school. Some anxiety accompanied me through it all. But so much healing had happened since 4 years ago. A very difficult personal time. A full mental break down, since then I had not taken a trip alone with my children. This trip was a reminder of all the things I have achieved over the last four years. So much healing and strength came from this trip.
Carving essential time for self-care while raising my children, creating an art career for myself and being gentle to myself in the sweetest of ways, through boundaries, rest, kind words, and yoga nidra among some others things.
I keep coming back to the point when my mental breakdown happened because it still lives within me present as ever, but morphing with each passing day. There are reminders of the harder days still like scars that are only visible to me. But most important and something I keep on wanting to share, is how overwhelming it was because it felt so lonely. And this is why I share about it over and over, because no one should have to go through this feeling lonely.
Life has inevitably so many ups and downs and learning to care for our souls is the most important thing we must do. We must find our people, and when we do we must create community together. A community that is based on love, support and understanding.
