MAESTRAS (16 hrs in Madrid)

MAESTRAS, Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza

I organised myself on a whim and left to see this spectacular exhibition at the Thyssen Museum in Madrid. I was lucky to have great insight from a fellow art friend who had attended the exhibition Ellen Holleman. And the exhibition was what I had been longing to see in a museum, (one not dedicated solely to women artists). I have purposely decided to add close ups of many of the images in the exhibition to share the intimate moments I experienced while. navigating the museum. It also will help you get a sense for the grandeur of these paintings.

I was met with welcoming and stunning purple coloured walls, majestic paintings that stood out and invigorated my own pursuits as a woman artist. These pantings and sculptures talked about stories that I had only read and seen on books. I felt as if I was walking on history, and I was doing it seeing myself reflected in it.

The rooms were filled with visitors, of all genders and ages. My heart was bursting with excitement. How very fortunates were we to experience the artworks of these WOMEN ARTISTS. I spent close to three hours enjoying each artwork and being in awe of the perseverance of these women. These women overcame so many obstacles to get to be artists, many times they even managed art careers in their own terms (and this has never been an easy thing not now, nor then).

A heartfelt thank you to all the people who made this exhibition possible. I really hope I get to see something of this scale again in the near future. Carolina Herrera was the sponsor for this exhibition and it made such an impact in me, it will be with me carrying me over and helping me navigate the challenges in my own life as a woman artist.

I will soon be releasing my art history course in Patreon and when I do, I will be sending a letter to my VIP subscribers with a preview of the course.
