bye bye 2023

Sketches I made with some collaboration with my middle child.

I wanted to close down my art journal for this year with an intimate note. This year marks a great step in my mental health recovery journey. I have learnt to navigate the down and upward cycles in a way that supports my wellbeing, and have many people to thank in that journey as well as to my art practice.

I have put together and participated in nearly 15 different art projects this year alone. It has taken a lot of determination hard work, and at times too much juggling to make it all happen.

In this process my children have demonstrated so much love and compassion for me, so much support, understanding, and so much encouragement as I follow my life long dream. I always wanted to have a creative career, even when I was a young child and did not really understand much of myself or the world. It matter to me to be creative. As I grew older this became more clear, but the path was maze-like to bring me here.

I am grateful for all the ways my children inspire me to continue to work hard for my art dreams.

These past few weeks I have been working at organizing their personal spaces in their rooms and they have each selected plenty of artworks to be a part of their most special place. I love that they love art and that they want it in their lives, in a different way than I do but as a beautiful part of their lives. Below are the images of the artworks in their rooms. Some are by me, some are by artists I admire, and who I have collected and my children have fallen in love with them and requested them for their rooms.

As I continue to make art through sketching, and my youngest also joined in making a portrait of me, and I prepared for a long trip to the US, I will be away until January, I could not help myself but create an art travel plan, and a mini-series, all the details will be shared in my newsletter. Wishing you all blessings and wonderful days ahead as we all close down 2023.

I am also including some wonderful quotes from Katy Hessel’s book, The Story of Art Without Men. I just finished reading the book and this will form the foundation for my research and project that I will be sharing in Patreon. I loved these reflections as they connect well with my current art practice.

Thank you for being an important part of my art making, through your engagement in social media, here and through DMs.
